Match report In spite of a second wicket stand of 107, Kenton were beaten by eight runs at Kenton Park Road on Saturday. The match was so close that Pinner, who had declared at 227 for 7, had only four balls to spare.

On a firm wicket Pinner got away to a good start, dominated by Ali who shared an opening stand of 44 with Bell (21) and went on to make 54 before being bowled by Silman, the most successful of the Kenton bowlers with 4 for 53 in 12 overs. This and a second wicket stand of 26 with Ahmed formed a solid basis for the middle order who all batted well, particularly Colbeck, another Silman victim for 47, and Williams, unbeaten for 33. After a long spell of 22 overs R. Patel finished with 3 for 65.

Kenton batted aggressively from the start of their innings and although Howe went for four Lambert and Preacher took the total from 26 to 133 before being parted. With Preacher in notably fine form and Lambert giving firm support Kenton appeared to have the match under control. But after Lambert had fallen to skipper Harris three short of his half century and Preacher to Goldsmith for 84 the Pinner bowlers gradually got on top with only P. Patel (29) staying long.

The return of Williams proved decisive and as things became tight a runout contributed to Kenton's discomfiture. When Williams began the last over the match could still have gone three ways but Williams' second ball proved too much for Reynolds and that was the end of a well contested game. Williams finished with 3 for 38, O'Connor 3 for 50, and Harris 2 for 41.
