Match report The Pinner second XI travelled to the picturesque ground of Littlewick Green for their latest Morrant Chilterns League match. Despite some traffic problems play started on time with Pinner deciding to go against recent form and bowl first on an unusually indifferent track.
Excellent controlled fast bowling from Varun Gopalakrishnan (1-14) from 10 overs enabled the steady line and length of Dan Downer (4-45) to destroy the LG top order, with Dan returning his best ever figures in his 15 overs. A brief hiccup to the Lambs progress as Tamoor Haider (1-22) struggled with a drain cover in his run up - the metals spikes clanging on the cover several times in the over before he was switched to the Downer end. Once he was able to get some rhythm, Tamoor also found some pace and took his wicket with a swinging yorker. Skips (4-15) replaced Varun and cleaned up the remaining batsman. LG managed to score 98, 2 runs short of a batting point.
After an average tea, that certainly lacked quantity (Tino Mahendram would not have been impressed!) Robert Fells and Simon Pilsbury opened the Pinner run chase. However they were soon back in the quaint pavilion as accurate bowling from Sethi and Weston reduced Pinner to 9-2. Enter Bob Harrison (32) and Saif Khan (61*) who put on 87 for the third wicket with very different styles - Bob with the cultured, classical approach and Saif with the 'let's hit it as hard as I can' approach. A cover drive from Bob was by far the best shot of the day, almost matched by one of the 3 sixes that Saif bludgeoned over the boundary. Both were extremely effective and it was a shame when Bob got out with just 3 needed.
A great, clinical win that has pushed the twos into second spot in the league with a crucial home game against third placed Knotty Green next week.
