Pinner Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Knotty Green 2 on Sat 08 Jul 2017 at 13.00
Pinner Cricket Club Lost 7 WICKETS

Match report On a warm Saturday afternoon, the 2s welcomed Knotty Green to the Montesole Cricket Ground (MCG). Earlier in the season a poor batting and bowling performance lead us to a 4 wicket defeat so hopes for improvement were high. After winning the toss, stand in skipper Cyrus Barrett, elected to bat first and make good use of what has been traditionally a very good batting wicket this season. However due to the unusually constant hot weather, the pitch was baked, the bounce was uneven and anyone who bowled straight made life very difficult for the batsmen. The first 6 overs were negotiated comfortably and we were 20 for 0 before Simon (2) half paddled half pulled a short ball to leg gully who had just been posted there, Waris was then LBW first ball missing a straight one. Rob F (26) got one which cut back and kept low to get bowled. Adam (5) got another which kept low and snuck between bat and pad then Keiran came in hit 2 4s then gave a gentle return catch to the bowler so were we struggling at 52 for 5. In comes club captain Daniel Langan at 7 who with Cyrus Barrett batting in his usual number 5 position settled in to try to fight back and putting a score on the board. The target becoming 150 instead of the usual 250. Unfortunately disaster struck to end the best partnership of the innings (26) when Daniel Langan (14) was given out LBW ensured that was not the case. Tino came and went LBW for 0. Captain for the day Cyrus Barrett watching all this unfold from the other end, tried to farm the strike only to play on to a wide ball for 22. Shane hit a glorious cover driver for 4 only to be caught next ball and Dan D was cleaned bowled first ball for 0. So a sorry effort on a difficult track saw us bowled out for 95 in 25.1 overs.
The decision was made to go straight out, opening up with the old ball were the Dan's. Langan up the hill and Downer down the hill, it wasnt long before a breakthrough happened when a clever move by Langan saw him drop to long off and the opener proceeded to hit the ball straight down his throat to the batsmans disbelief, runs were hard to come back and Pinner struck again at 24 where Langan got the other opener LBW playing in front of his pad. Varun came on to the bowl and he got some to whistle past the number 3s (who normally captains the 1s) nose, before he bowled the number 4 off his foot and at 41 for 3, all was not lost for Pinner. But that was as good as it got, some indifferent bowling either full tosses or wide short deliveries and good batting from the number 3 (50no) and number 5 who must of at least played and missed every other ball saw Knotty Green home to a 7 wicket win. The Pinner performance was not up to our usual standards and the pitch mirrored this. The best bit of the day was the wonderful tea prepared by Lisa and Emma. Now there is a 2 week break before Denham away, so we will come back stronger next time.
