Amersham Hill 2 v Pinner Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 09 Sep 2017 at 12.30
Pinner Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report Pinner 2's made the relatively short trip to Amersham Hill to play their last league game of the season, knowing that we had to better Denham's result by 8 points to finish third.
With a forecast that threatened heavy showers skips won the toss and took the unusual decision to field first. Good opening spells from John Hoh and Varun Gopalakrishnan (1-42) saw AH get off to a slow start, with John in particular unlucky not to have their opener given out caught behind - the person ion Amersham not to see or hear the edge was the umpire! Dan Downer (2-61) replaced John and bowled a steady first spell but it was Deepak Amwriwalla (2-38) who made the breakthrough, getting out the stubborn AH opener. Skips (3-38) replaced Dan and bowled steadily until getting smashed for 17 in one over. In trying to stem the runs Varun came back, but went for 2 sixes in his one over - a short spell that meant Dan returned for his second spell. After 50 overs there was a bizarre declaration, the batsmen walking off the pitch after skips had bowled a maiden - apparently the batsmen mistook a message to bat for 52 overs to mean that they should declare! So tea was taken with AH 204-8, a target that was below par with the small boundaries on three sides of the ground.
After a Lisa Noel tea that was made in Pinner and transported by Pinner, openers Simon Pilsbury (10) and Robert Fells (37) set on an initially sedate run chase, often opting for defence over attack, until Simon gave catching practice. Jack Tucker (22) looked in good nick and played one of the shots of the day (a classical cover drive) until misjudging a full toss and when Cyrus Barrett was out trying to cut a daisy cutter Pinner were wobbling at 97-4.
However Deepak (12) joined this season's run machine Saif Khan (92*) and the pair put on almost 100 to take Pinner to the verge of victory. Saif was particularly aggressive against bowling he made to look ordinary, bludgeoning 14 4's and a 6 to record yet another not out and in the process overtaking Cyrus as the leading league run scorer.
Overall a great team performance in which every player played a part and hopefully it was enough to leapfrog Denham into a well deserved third place.
It just leaves me to say a massive thank you to everyone that has played, umpired, scored and supported us through the season, it has been a real pleasure to skipper the team!
Onto next year! Come on the Lambs!
