Match report Pinner 2's made the trip to The Lee, the runaway league leaders. On winning the toss skips had no hesitation in inviting the hosts to bat.
An early wicket for John Hoh (1-33) was taken but that just brought Swain to join Hutt at the crease, and these two put Pinner to the sword. Scoring at almost 8 an over they were relentless, putting both good and bad balls to the boundary, and in some cases over it. However Pinner stuck to the task and it was Dan Downer who made the breakthough, Cyrus Barrett taking the catch as Swain went for another big hit over the very short legside boundary. This prompted an excellent spell of bowling from DD, who eventually finished with career best figures of 6-75 - his first 5 ever wicket haul! Bowling straight, he managed to utilise some uneven bounce to get 4 victims clean bowled. Skips (3-10) helped clean up the tail and The Lee finished on 238 all out.
There was a tricky half hour to bat before tea but this was seen through by Robert Fells (11) and Simon Pilsbury (31). Rob however was out in the first over after tea and Jack Tucker (21) joined Simon to put onb 43 for the second wicket. This preceded a collapse, as Pinner went from 64-2 to 91-8 and only Cyrus Barrett (32) was able to stand tall against excellent bowling. DD joined Cyrus and added to his wickets with 24 valuable runs as Pinner secured two batting points, leaving no doubt as to who took the man of the match award.
Unfortunately Pinner were unable to stave off defeat and were all out for 140 against the undeniable best team in the league.
Ironically if Pinner had taken longer to bowl them out, a draw could well have been achieved, but that's the beauty of the game!
Whilst not achieving the a positive result, the team battled hard throughout the whole game, and played in the spirit that the game should be played in. We left with heads held high and DD celebrating with his first jug back for Pinner!
