After an entertaining first inter-club league game with the 3s out of the way last week, 4s were back at Roxbourne, this time hosting Chorleywood 4s. Pinner 4s won the toss and elected to bat. The pitch itself looked a much better one compared to the first game. Reb Fells, our most senior player on the field had a new opening partner Hrishi Sharma, our youngest player on the field. Rob Fells (0) going for the right shot but was badly executed was caught at covers in the first over. After playing some nice front foot stokes, Hrishi was dismissed for 6. Pinner 8-2 in 4 overs. Jayesh at 3 and Arjun at 4 built a small partnership before Arjun was dismissed for 3. Pinner 23-3 in 11 overs. Nav Singh joined Jayesh, Nav hit some lovely boundaries, (a six and a four) whilst Jayesh kept rotating the strike nicely, their partnership of 16 was broken when Nav (13) was given out as LBW. Pinner 39-4 in 15 overs. Nadeem (7) the next batsman ran hard for his twos but his stay at the crease ended 4 balls before the drinks break. Pinner 54-5 in 20 overs. The last 5 wickets fell for 8 runs and Pinner 4s were all out for 62 in 28.1 overs


Pinners in-form opening bowler Jaivrat (6-1-9-1) started the proceeding and he was joined by our spin wizard Hull (5-2-11-2). Both bowled a tight spell and managed to grab three early wickets between themselves, restricting oppo for 25-3 in 11 overs. Nav Singh replaced Jaivrat and with his pace picked up his first PCC wicket in his first over. Rob Fells own words to the skipper after Nav’s first over “a brave and smart bowling change” as bringing a slower bowler looked a better option as oppo were struggling to hit their shots against our slower bowlers. Trying to go for another breakthrough, Darpan replaced Chris Hull. Darpan (4-1-17-0) had an off day and couldn’t repeat his similar bowling performance of last week. Nav (6-0-10-3) continued to bowl well and kept putting pressure on the oppo by taking wickets at regular interval. Hrishi (2-0-7-0) was introduced in hope of a wicket but eventually Chorleywood chased down the target with 4 wickets remaining.

The commitment and competitive approach showed by our bowlers and fielders was great to see. Only if we had 25-30 more runs on the board and the match probably could have gone in our favour.

Overall, a great effort, especially with three players playing their first league game this week. Last weekend P4s fielded five league debutants.

Pinner 4th XI living up to their moto for this season FUN, COMPETITIVE, DEVELOPMENT. We definitely had fun, played competitive cricket (especially when bowling & fielding), and with 8 debutants playing league cricket over the last two weeks so far, their development throughout the season would be pleasant to watch.

Jayesh played brilliantly for his 22 and was our top scorer, well done to Tom for his work behind the stumps, not an easy task keeping. He was backed by his parents and his dog who came to support him at the ground and a great Pinner CC debut by Nav Singh, 3 wickets and 13 runs scored.
