Ruislip Victoria 2 v Pinner Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 25 Aug 2018 at 12.30
Pinner Cricket Club Lost by 2 wickets

Match report Ruislip Victoria 2's hosted Pinner 2's at the Montesole Oval, due to the unavailability of their home ground.
Pinner lost the toss and were invited to bat on a damp track, against what was found out later to be the majority of their first team bowling attack (as their ones, who play two divisions higher than Pinner 1's, didn't have a game). One of their players defended the position by saying it was a 'must win' game for them!. Pinner didn't get off to a good start as 2 wickets fell in the third over, leaving Simon Pilsbury (28) and Bob Harrison (12) to start the rebuilding exercise. They constructed a partnership of 51 until Bob tried to get down the wicket to their leg spinner and was stumped. Debutant James Baker (12) looked good before receiving an unplayable ball that almost went along the ground and he was LBW in the 21st over. Kieran Carter (12) played a couple of big shots before being caught and bowled, and now Pinner were 91-6 off 21 overs, a long way short of a competitive score, with 6 of the top seven back in the hutch.
Skips (50) joined the majestic Cyrus Barrett (72) and both initially battled very hard to survive against some testing bowling. However they survived to put on a record 7th wicket stand for the 2's of 136, allowing Pinner to declare on 227-7 in the last over.
After the usual high quality Lisa Noel tea, the old ball was taken and after two tight overs, the next 5 went for 45. The Ruislip 1's opening bat was particularly savage, dispatching Skips and Dan Downer to various parts of Pinner, Hatch End and Northwood! As they were going at 9 an overr, the new ball was taken by James Baker (2-29) and John Hoh (2-56), with John trapping the hard hitting Bhatti plumb in front. Shane O'Sullivan replaced James and bowled an excellent, albeit unlucky spell. To this point a couple of difficult chances had been put down, but the introduction of Simon Pilsbury led to two more simple chances to go down in the space of three overs. It was to prove crucial, and the old saying of 'Catches win matches' was never better illustrated.
Skips (3-47) kept it tight, and regular bowling changes at the other end but it was to no avail as Ruislip won the game by two wickets with one ball to spare.
An excellent, competitive hard fought game of cricket with 15 wickets and over 250 runs with Pinner just not being able to stem the runs. Whether Pinner would have selected half a first team if the circumstances were reversed is one for debate, but I seriously doubt it.
Skips was justifiably proud of the team effort and gutsy performance against a very strong 2nd team - it is a shame that we just couldn't stem a couple of runs, oh and the catches.
