Pinner Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Phoenix OB on Sat 10 Aug 2019 at 13:00
Pinner Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report Pinner 2s were at home to Phoenix Old Boys in a top of the table clash, knowing that a win for us would mean Phoenix are unable to overtake us for the title. Acting as replacement captain (me) while the real captain Rob Bonneywell was enjoying the spoils of Kent, lost the toss and were asked to bowl first. The wicket was green but firm despite the down pour on Friday.... those covers purchased by the club are really appreciated by the batters. It was long before Varun Gopalakrishnan took the first wicket... in fact it was the first over when he dismissed the oppo captain by the first of 3 2nd slip catches by Jack Tucker. Varun bowled superbly and picked up regular wickets to finish with 4 for 11 off 8 overs and Phoenix were struggling at 40 for 4. It could have been a lot worse as the number 6 Woodland should have given out run out on 0 but the oppo umpire was looking at the floor, even the batsman thought he was out. At the other end left handed Quelch rode his luck being dropped 5 times and caught off a no ball. These 2 put on a partnership and really had a good launch pad to reach 200+ which would have been incredibly competitive score. But a captain masterstroke (thank you JT for the nudge) brought on partnership breaker Simon Pilsbury who picked up Woodland caught behind. This lead to a dramatic collapse as the last 6 wickets fell for 10 runs in 4.4 overs as John Hoh became unplayable down the hill with 3 and Jack picking up 2 up the hill. Phoenix to bowled out for 144 in 33.4 overs. Another wonderful tea was provided by Lisa and Pinner went out to bat. It wasn't long before the Pinner innings mirrored the Phoenix innings as SP edged behind for 1, JT got one which went under the bat... it kept that low. Robert Fells ct behind and Shakib Miskeenmal after smacking a 6 and 4 got caught at long on. So Pinner were 47 for 4. This brought Saif Khan and myself to the wicket as we begun to slowly to turn things around and we put on a match defining 87 runs. Saif finished 57 not out I was out with only 10 needed to win for 33. Kieran Carter went out to bat with wise words from myself saying don't do anything silly, take your time before he smashed his first ball over long on for 4 to bring us a 4 wicket win and 1 win away from the title. Apart from the dropped catches which totalled 7. We quickly turned things around with the ball and the old adage of one wicket brings two, or in this case 6 couldn't be more accurate. Next up its Hurley so fasten your seatbelts for that game as it should be a belter.
