Match report On a hot and humid day at the Montesole Oval, Pinner 2's hosted Harpenden 5 in a top of the table clash. Although the pitch was very uneven, skips won the toss and batted, as it certainly wouldn't get better through the day.
Robert Fells (22) and Simon Pilsbury (68) patiently laid the groundwork, putting on 54 before Rob was bowled off his pads trying to accelerate the scoring. Akshay Dhanda (8) played a 3 ball cameo and Alan Carter (5) and Omkar Narvencar (0) came and went quickly.
However the 2's have strength in depth in their batting line up and Sachin Patel made a promising 26 on his debut before being run out as Simon pushed one to midwicket and ran! Jack Tucker (22) joined Simon. Simon and Jack both fell and it was left to Atul Singh (12*) and a dashing 17 from Darshan Dixit to complete the 40 overs, with The Lambs finishing on a very competitive 197-7.
Harpenden knew they needed to score at 5 an over and both openers were not shy in flashing their blades - with relatively little success. Runs were scored predominantly from edges flying off accurate bowling from both Jack (0-17) and Atul (1-20). The early breakthrough was a fortunate run out as Athul touched the return drive onto the stumps, leaving their opener stranded. After more flashing blade cricket, Athul had their number 3 caught brilliantly one handed, low down by Simon as he was recuperating at slip.
John Hoh (0-27) and Akshay Dhanda (0-13) replaced Atul and Jack and despite beating the bat numerous times it was the slower pace from Skips (5-9) that broke the Harpenden back, allied to some great fielding as 3 run outs were taken. In a rare event, Alan Carter (1-12) had a bowl, with the opposition number 6 feeling so sorry for him that he lobbed one to Jack!
A game played in good spirits by both teams ended with 30 points for the Lambs, leaving them 15 points clear at the top. Next week is a trip to Holtwhites Trinibis in Enfield.
