Quote of the day:
Chivan Patel: Bowling full tosses here (at Hatch End Fields) is not a good idea
Bob Harrisonreply: Chiv, bowling full tosses on any pitch is not a good idea.
Player(s) of the Match: Difficult to decided. Excellent all-round performances from Chivan Patel and Andrew Jacksons, Master Class Batting from Dave Bennett and Robert Fells , Good Keeping and two Catches by Adam Rissen , Brilliant bowling performances from Kyara Wanders and Myself Waris Khan, Great fielding by Desmond Hubert, Muhammad Bilal Khan and Shaurya Deshmukh and just about perfect captaincy by Bob Harrison. Reason I say ‘Just about’, he did decide to put me down at number 11 in the batting order simply to piss me off and unluckily for me I had to face the last ball of the innings and avoid a Hat-trick with Bob himself being at the non-strikers end…AND Yes, I did evade a Hat-Trick, well Just, survive a LBW shout. So after 5 mins discussion at post-match drinks, Player(s) of the Match award goes to the entire Pinner III Team …. YES including skipper as he did take a spectacular catch at a crucial stage.
Moment of the Day: Desmond Hubert and myself running after the ball to stop it from reaching the boundary, inches away from touching the boundary rope, Des Hubert brilliantly used his football skills, kicked the ball in and saved a boundary, however, the ball came towards me and as I was still in my running motion, the ball ricochets of my foot and I beautifully assisted the ball from crossing the boundary. Result, four runs to the oppo.
Des: Why would you do that?
Waris: I didn’t do it on purpose.
Pinner started their innings with Robert Fells and his new opening partner Adam Rissen . Four balls into the innings Adam Rissen was dismissed unluckily by dragging a short ball onto his stumps. Pinner 1-1 in 0.4 overs. Chivan Patel at 3 along with Robert Fells played very sensibly and slowly started to build a strong platform despite the pitch offering variable bounce. They put together a partnership of 50 and were going along very nicely before Chivan Patel (29) top edged a leggie, the ball went behind the keeper, Chiv shouted out all three calls Wait, No, Yes, started to go for a run, was sent back and was runout, a good crafted innings coming to an end. Pinner 60-2 in 19.4 overs. At 4, Andrew Jackson in his typical style got his innings under way with couple of singles and later some boundaries. On the other side Rob Robert Fells (28) trying to increase the run rate was eventually out. He showed everyone exactly how an opening batsman should play on the Hatch End Pitch. Pinner 87-3 in 27.2 overs. Andrew Jackson(17) soon followed and Pinner were 94-4 in 29 overs. Dave Bennett and Muhammad Bilal Khan the two new batsmen at the crease didn’t waste time and straight away got the score card ticking. Muhammad Bilal Khan (10) relying on his power-hitting knocked couple of boundaries but was eventually bowled out. Pinner 110-5 in 31 overs. Desmond Hubert at . It didn’t feel Dave Bennett picked up a bat after a year as he hit some wonderful boundaries and ran nicely between the wickets with Desmond Hubert . Desmond Hubert (15) stroking some powerful boundaries was caught out. Not so sportsmanship behaviour from the opposition as one of their players passed on a comment to Desmond as he was walking off, it was to do with an appeal a delivery before his dismissal where he was given Not Out. Pinner 148-6 in 36.2 overs. Shaurya Deshmukh (3) was next to be out. Pinner 157-7 in 37.5 overs. Skipper Bob Harrison (3 Not out) in at 9 (much lower down the order due to his hamstring injury). Dave Bennett was not affected with the wickets falling around him as he continued to push on. His masterclass innings of 39 was ended with 2 balls remaining. Pinner 161-8 in 39.4 overs. Kyara Wanders (0) soon followed. Pinner 161-9 in 39.5 overs. Myself Waris Khan at 11 survived a LBW shout and Pinner innings ended on 161-9 in 40 over. Giving opposition a solid target of 162 to win.
Kyara Wanders started the bowling for Pinner from ‘The Morrions End’ and bowled a very tight first spell of 5 overs and only conceding 11 runs. Myself Waris Khan (8-1-19-1) from ‘The Trains End’ kept the pressure on with some discipline bowling and Pinner got their first break-through curtesy a wonderful catch by Kyara. Hatch End 28-1 in 12 overs. Andrew Jackson replaced Kyara and struck in his second over as the batsman edge one through to the keeper, Adam Rissen picking up his first catch. Hatch End 30-2 in 13.3 overs. Desmond Hubert (7-0-25-0) replaced Waris Khan , after leaking 14 runs of his first 2 overs, Desmond Hubert came back strong especially in his second spell of 2 overs. On the other hand Jacko got Pinner another wicket with Adam Rissen repeating the honours. Hatch End 63-3 in 21.4 Overs. Kyara Wanders (8-1-26-2) coming back into the attack bowled brilliantly and took two quick wickets with Chivan Patel and Bob Harrison holding onto a catch each. Hatch End were 85-5. Shaurya Deshmukh (2-0-19-0) replaced Kyara and bowled a good second over. Andrew Jackson replaced Shaurya and came on for his second spell, took another wicket. Finished with excellent bowling figures of 8-0-22-3. At the other end Chivan Patel (7-0-31-1) was operating with his tight line and length bowling and did an exceptional job of not letting the batsman score freely. When the oppo were trying to push for a win Chivan Patel got a break-through. With some great bowling and good fielding, not to forget the drive of the day from Dave Bennett Pinner won by 14 runs.
Overall a good game to be a part of with everyone contributing to the victory.
I was at Pinner CC on friday running the All Star for children age group 5-8. The first activity we did was 'Yes, No, Wait'. The main aim of the activity is to make clear decisions and respond to calls. I would like to invite Chivan Patel to participate in the next session where I am happy to run this particular activity again.
