Harpsden 2 v Pinner Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 03 Sep 2016 at 12.30
Match was Abandoned Due to rain

Match report The honour of playing the final league game of the 2016 season fell to the Lambs 2nd team. On a sunny morning, the team travelled to the League Champions, Harpsden, knowing that 4 points would be sufficient to clinch a runners up medal and potential promotion. The team were accompanied by Leeroy on umpire duty and Alan Kay on the pens.

Winning the toss, Harpsden were invited to bat, knowing that the most likely way to the 4 points we needed would be through getting 8 wickets. Nicholas Lawrence (2-45) opened and bowled Harpsden's captain, and the leading league run scorer Sasha Burgess with the fifth ball - a dream start. Patience was then the key as Navin Agarwal (4-33) got into an excellent rhythm but couldnt get a further breakthrough. Then in the 20th over things changed, with Cyrus Barrett taking an excellent one handed catch off Navin, which was followed up with a perfect yorker and suddenly Navin was on a hat trick and Harpsden were shaking. Two more followed for Navin as he bowled his 15 overs straight through.

At the other end skips (1-38) kept it tight and Tallen Neelakandan (1-49) took a wicket in the first over of his second spell. Suddenly Harosden were 7 wickets down with 15 overs left to bat. It was another bowling change that took the 8th and promotion-winning point - Cyrus again taking a catch off Nick.

A number of chances, difficult and regulation, were put down which meant that Harpsden finished on 177 - 8, possibly 30 more than they should have made.

After a good tea, Pinner set about the task in a positive fashion getting to 45-1 off 11 overs (Jack Tucker 21* and Robert Fells 14*) before the predicted rain arrived at 4.15. After watching the rain for 30 minutes the skippers shook hands on the abandonement and the champagne was duly opened!

Harpsden finished the season undefeated but will know that they would have struggled to remain so if the rain had not saved them!

So the end of a tremendous season for the 2nd team, where a top 4 finish was the objective and a top 2 position was achieved.

Whilst I can't mention everyone who has played a part this year I will say a special thanks to those players that may have played the occasional game, the positive attitude of those that I've had to drop and the players (both young and old) that are waiting in the wings - you are the reason we are getting stronger as a club. Thanks also goes out to Lisa Noel and Emma for the tremendous teas we've had this year and the other little things that go unnoticed - such as preparing drinks!

And finally a meesage to the whole team - it has been a pleasure and honour to skipper you this season, largely due to your attitude and performance both on and off the pitch and I thank each and every one of you!
Here's to next season - WELL DONE THE LAMBS!!
