Match report Pinner 2's travelled to Little Marlow on the hottest day of the year so far. Winning the toss enabled Pinner to have first use of a wonderful batting track, with the team thankful for not having to field in the heat.
Opening up were Robert Fells (61) and Simon Pilsbury (61) who not only put on their biggest partnership of the season to date of 103, but it was also a maiden league 50 for Simon. After losing Rob, Waris Khan (17) joined Simon as the pair batted cautiously but sensibly in putting on 62 before Simon was out. Enter Saif Khan (57*), the last minute call up. Obviously enjoying the true bounce and relatively short boundaries Saif despatched the bowling to all parts of Little Marlow including two massive 6's. Saif and Cyrus Barrett (18) put on 73 as Pinner were able to declare early, with 252-4 after 46.1 overs.
After a good tea Pinner went out to field in what were still hot conditions, knowing that they could be in the field for 53 overs. Initially the position looked dodgy, as Little Marlow's openers set about the attack with some gusto, reaching drinks at 104-0. However the drinks break brought a wicket with Adam Rissen (2-53) removing the dangerous Guy Thistlethwaite (74), Waris taking the first of 5 catches behind the stumps. Patience was very much the order of the day, with attack and defence being employed almost all through the rest of the innings. Adam and skips (4-50) bowled well in tandem and restricted the run rate to less than the required 5 an over for the 30 overs they bowled. Little Marlow were still going for their shots, even after the returning Varun Gopalakrishnan (3-38) took two in 3 balls. It was left to Onion Shaji Thomas (1-28) to take the last wicket with only 3 overs to go, and 24 needed.
An excellent game of cricket where Pinner outplayed a spirited Little Marlow team and took home 30 points! Great result, fantastic team performance and a thoroughly enjoyable day was had! (oh, and we did it for Simon!)
