Match report
Match report - Pinner 1s vs West Herts at Montesole Cricket Ground
Cricket is back! The mighty Lambs kicked off at home with the 1s taking on West Herts in this first of two friendlies ahead of the league season. Pre-match, Nicholas Lawrence was handed his Most League Wickets trophy for last season's exploits and I had the displeasure of handing over the Most League Runs trophy to Ro. We welcomed Kunal Gandhi for his 1s debut.
The toss was negotiated and I opened up the batting with Rohitesh Dhawan. We started well enough but I soon lost sight of a straight ball. 28-1. With Saif lurking to solidify his fantasy team picks, Darshan was keen to impress. He and Ro played some great shots, finding the boundary regularly. After refusing to walk for being plumb LBW earlier in his innings, Ro was eventually given out for a well made 40. Ro looked in good form and that bodes well for the Lambs. Darshan continued on his merry, reverse-sweeping ways in the company of Ömkår who batted as if someone had told him that extra runs would be awarded the harder he smacked it. These two scored at a brisk pace, notching up a 62 run partnership before Ömkår was out for 33. Raj 'freak in the sheets' Venkar was desperate not to replicate his first baller in his only previous 1s appearance and proceeded to face 8 times more deliveries in this stint, for a score of 5. Kunal departed cheaply and so it was left to Salman to pick up the pieces from 134-5, with support from the rest, to steer Pinner to a solid total of 214 in the alloted 40 overs. At some point Darshan brought up his 50 and celebrated by sprinting off the field, retired out, to give the other batsmen a go. Fair play to him for doing something I'd never ever do voluntarily.
Nicholas 'slower than Jack Tucker' Lawrence and Felix 'leave it' Hoh started our defence of a strong total. West Hearts' opening pair put on a less than convincing 36, before Felix broke through with wickets in consecutive balls. Jack Tucker came on to bowl in the 11th over and carried on where he left off last season, with inch perfect bowling that got him the next 2 wickets. Debutant Kunal Gandhi was wayward to start but soon found his length and helped himself to a debut wicket. Having had enough of watching the others get amongst the wickets, Daniel brought himself and Salman on. Dan took all of the last 5 wickets to make a last ditch effort for Man of the Match, which to be fair he could have gotten had he not
spent the entire innings leading the abuse of his own wicketkeeper, together with his vice captain
screamed 'LEAVE IT', making Felix believe he was going for a catch, and later claiming he'd actually screamed 'FELIX'
Pinner ran out comfortable winners by 99 runs.
Man of the match: Darshan for an entertaining 52 and unselfishly retiring out.
Dick(s) of the day: Tied between Darshan for his brown socks worn over his trousers and Felix for bowling his fastest delivery to a 12 year old and cleaning out his stumps first ball. Well done.
On to next week when I look forward to spending yet another entire Saturday with this group of ungrateful, abusive clowns.
