Match report The sun was out, ideal cricket weather for the short trip to Northwood Town with more league debuts too with the Evans twins Daniel and Joseph. With everyone at the ground nice and early the toss was taken by replacement captain Cyrus as Sir Waris was on family errand duties for the day. Obviously the toss was lost and we were asked to bat first on a hard cracked tracked. Rob and Para were asked to open, with Rob particularly to avoid getting more 0's than a googleplex. Tight bowling by Shamir and Abhay meant runs were hard to come by, but the main task for the side was always to try to bat 40 overs and not worry about runs so much after being bowled out for 50 and 60 in previous two weeks. Para was first to go LBW in the 6th over with 5 on the board. Next up was Sid's Pinners answers to Sachin T in height and technique at least but unfortunately he didnt last too long either edging to slip and we were already 12 for 2 in 10 overs. Skipper for the day was next up for the grind to 40 overs and tried to rebuild with Rob which only last a few overs before Rob (7) went after a wide one and nicked off to keeper and 20 for 3 off 14. Exciting stuff so far. Northwood Town 1st and 2nd change bowlers continued to bowl good lines with the long outfield making boundaries hard to come by too. John H entered the fray with me imagining our partnership against Flamstead last year however that was not to be the case as John made 1 before bowled. Saif was no 6 and finally we were able to put some pressure back on the oppo with some lusty blows as we put on 40 before Saif offered a loopy catch to point to make 28 off 29 balls. Finally my vigil was ended as i went back to a ball that kept low and was plumb as you like out for a more sedate 28 off 58 balls and we were 85 for 6 off 29. Unfortunately wickets were regularly lost and no one able to really influence the score with Jaivrat (2) Shaurya (5) Daniel (3) Chris (2*) and Joseph (1) nearly batting the overs but alas 106 all out was our total. An improvement on previous weeks so going in the right direction.
We went out to field knowing early wickets were the key, the twins opened the bowling and Joseph with the first over was particularly impressive with his pace and control and was unlucky as he beat the bat, cut the batsman in half with ball just missing the stumps, but the openers were able to see of the opening spell Joseph 5-0-10-0 and Jaivrat 4-0-24-0 who replaced Daniel early as they made it to 54 for 0 off 12 overs and it was time for golden arm Saif 4-0-25-1 who broke through almost immediately yorking the oppo captain. Next ball no 3 bat was dropped at slip cutting and 3rd ball was dropped in covers a very tough chance by the diving Para but he settled down after that to smash or try to smash the ball everywhere as he blazed 45 in 7 overs as Chris 2-1-11-0 and Shaurya 1-0-19-0 werent able to stem the tide and bringing back Daniel 2.5-0-17-1 did do the trick when the scores were level by getting no 3 to spoon a catch high in the air for Sid to take a good one at mid off and 3 balls later Daniel bowled the no 4 unfortunately it was a no ball and the game was over.
Overall good effort in the field, exciting debuts for the Evans twins as well but again the batting is a concern and without runs on the board it is always going to be a struggle to win games.
