Match report Rain, rain go away, come again.... When we're not batting!
In a game that started so well, with Kam winning the toss and bowling first, the Lambs second team could only manage a draw against the visiting Amersham Hill.
Taking the field in overcast conditions Pinner struggled to make a breakthrough with neither Nicholas Lawrence or Philip Page quite on the money. After putting on 51 for the first wicket it was the first of three bowling changes that took wickets, Cyrus Barrett having Amersham's self- proclaimed legend caught by Sikander Merchant. Then it became the Navin Agarwal show, taking a debut 5 wickets with nippy singers and cutters, the first 4 all clean bowled. Suddenly the Hill were 118 for 6, and the next bowling change saw the former twin, Simon Pilsbury, take 2 wickets in his first over, Amersham suddenly looking vulnerable at 131-9. However an undefeated last wicket stand of 54 meant the oppo finished with a competitive 185, which was about par.
And then, after a wonderful tea prepared to the usual exceptional standards by Lisa Noel and her team, it rained.
Losing 40 minutes, and 12 overs, from the Pinner innings basically removed any prospect of a home win as only 31 overs remained with an outfield that was so slow the ball seemed to be allergic to crossing the boundary line. Without the tactical nous that could have made for an interesting 31 overs, their skipper obviously thought 6 an over was achievable. (sometimes you have to be prepared to lose a game to win it - the only way Amersham could win was to make Pinner interested in a run chase). But alas no such excitement was to be had and it petered out to a draw, with most of 1's back to watch. The highlight being the return of Rob Harrison with a fluent 26.
So a game ruined by the rain, but Navin won't care after a dream debut with the ball. On the road again next week to Littlewick Green.
