Match report Pinner 2's welcomed league leaders Holyport to the Montesole Oval on a damp day. Just before the toss, the heavens opened and the covers were dragged out. The start was delayed for half an hour and the toss, just as it was at Holyport, was crucial. And Pinner lost it and were asked to bat.
In difficult conditions the Lambs were soon in trouble. At 50 for 8, and with none of the top 6 scoring double figures, an early day was being envisaged. But as with some Lambs, the rail wagged! A great knock from Shaji Thomas (43*) was ably supported by firstly Tino Mahendram (10) and then two of the younger team members, Shane O'Sullivan (12) and Tallen Neelakandan (15). Shaji and Tallen put on 64 for the last wicket.
After another fine Lisa Noel tea, Pinner went out to see what damage they could do. Opening with the old and you Annay Lakhia (1-26) and skips (4-30), an early breakthrough didn't happen but when skips got an opener out, it opened the gates to some indifferent batting allied to wonderful bowling and enthusiastic fielding. Onion Shaji (1-5) and Navin Agarwal (2-21) kept the pressure on as wickets fell. A run out and further good bowling from Tallen meant that Holyport were 9 down with 10 to get.
Unfortunately the Lambs couldn't manage to get the last wicket despite a very close lbw appeal that could have been overturned if we had hawkeye!
A great game in which I was extremely proud of each and every one of the team for putting in a fantastic performance! Just a shame that most of the oppo vanished as the final ball went over the boundary and we didn't even have time to copy the scorebook!
