Chipperfield Clarendon 2 v Pinner Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 14 May 2022 at 1300
Pinner Cricket Club Won by 87 runs
Match report
Pinner 1st XI vs. Chipperfield & Clarendon 2nd XI at Chipperfield Cricket Club
Clear blue skies and picturesque settings welcomed the Pinner 1st XI for game 2 against Chipperfield Clarendon 2s. Pinner welcomed... brought back James 'fiddled by airport security thrice in the last month' Baker into the playing XI for the first time this season. Daniel Langan won the toss and had no hesitation in electing to bat first.
James and I got off to a brisk start. That included a call for 3 runs from James and instead of the traditional "YES!!", James opted for "COMIIIIING!!!!", triggering all sorts of images in my head as I completed the third run. Clearly distracted, I chased a wide ball and was out for 100 (strike rate that is). Pinner 21-1. Kavit dealt exclusively in boundaries but he (12) along with James (12) and Darshan (0) were out in quick succession. Salman (3) was given out LBW against his wishes and although runs were being added at a decent clip, Pinner were 60-5 in the 14th over. Ömkår Ñårvêñcår and Jack Tucker started the rebuild - Ömkår with the lusty hitting as expected, supported by a more circumspect Jack. 41 runs were added but Omkar was out bowled, also for 41, leaving Pinner at 101-6. Jack and Raj Venkar kept things ticking over but were unable to go big. The last 4 wickets fell in the space of 22 runs and Pinner were all out for 161. A forgettable day for the batsmen in what were perfect batting conditions.
The hosts' response got off to a shaky start - the openers' edges were under threat from the first over. Edges fell short, went wide of fielders and lofted drives just over their heads but runs were very hard to come by during brilliant opening spells from Felix Hoh and Nickunal Lawrence. The breakthrough finally came in the 7th over, Chipperfield 18-1. Kunal had to wait for his first wicket - a dolly at mid off somehow landed at Darshan's feet - but his reward came in his penultimate over. It was just reward for his best spell (8-1-21-1) so far for Pinner. Jack and Salman continued the great work and runs were very hard to come by. It took Jack 4 overs to concede a run! Jack (8-2-10-2) kept beating the bat throughout his spell after getting their number 2 caught behind. Watching Sal at the other end in top from the wicketkeeping position does make me forget the pain from doing over 200 squats a game. The batsmen were left dancing to his tune, one falling after another in between what seemed like a million dot balls. From 50-3 the hosts were skittled out for 74 as Felix (6.2-0-19-2) wrapped up the formalities. The day belonged to Sal however with personal best figures of 8-2-13-5 and his second league fifer. Well done Sal!
In the end, an easy win for Pinner by 87 runs but lots to improve on, especially for the top order batsmen if we are to have a shot at winning this division.
Dick of the day: Despite Darshan's valiant attempts, for the first time this season, the award escapes the Dixit grip. For forgetting to bring his whites to a cricket match, batting in James Baker's spare pair, changing out of it when out and then for some reason putting my trousers on in the innings break, it's Raj Venkar.
Player of the match: Salman 'Balls can Talk' Moeeniddin for his splendid 5 wicket haul.
