Match report
Pinner 3rd XI Match Report 20th May 2023
Pinner 3s made the extremely arduous journey to Chestnut Avenue to face Northwood Town. True to form even though the game was closer than our own home ground, the usual suspects were late. The skipper has made note for future selection.
The pitch was as good looking as a Sid forward defensive, relatively dry and a pleasure to see considering recent climactic conditions. Keeping up the 2023 tradition, RGH lost the toss and the oppo decided bat first. Shaurya led the attack beautifully, steaming up the hill and into the wind, bowling five overs on the bounce and keeping the batsmen honest. The first of two tidy catches by Harrison jnr gave Shaurya a well deserved wicket. At the other end Niro rolled back the years and bowled eight overs on the bounce. Using the conditions well a very tidy set of figures were returned. An LBW and a second catch by Harrison jnr. Raies, Saif, Des and John took up the bowling mantle and whilst the oppo never looked like getting away, a few dropped catches allowed their number three to accelerate. The steady fall of wickets mixed with some hearty blows and an excellent final 8 overs by Des, Rai’s and Shaurya kept the s ore to 133 all out in the 40th over. A strong day in the field and excellent work by Raies, John and Sid in particular.
Pinner made the two paced wicket look better than it was with RGH spooning a catch to square leg off a full toss. Sid played some beautiful shots as did Charlie who alongside Sambit wrestled some momentum back for Pinner. Some poor shot selection then gave Northwood a bit of momentum and all of a sudden it was a dog fight to the end. Sambit did something no one thought possible making Saif look like Usain Bolt when running. Niro showed what ‘born ready’ means from his perspective taking a smart single off his first ball before providing a dolly to be caught three balls later. Des strode in like Viv Richards but then it transpired the swagger was down to a grumbling hip that needed a pain killer. Some lusty blows in the 36th over from Des made sure Pinner were never out of the chase and then looking to hit straight down the ground Des was caught and bowled to a smart reflex juggle by the oppo skipper. Sambit took a well needed boundary and some singles. John Ho was promoted to 9 and expressed his anger at the skipper by getting out as soon as possible to a straight slow one. In stride Raies with Pinner needing 8 to win off nine balls. He struck five off his first three and Sambit was delighted to sprint all five of them. Two off the first ball of the last over (struck again by Raies) and then a wide concluded then proceedings. Sambit ended 44 not out having anchored the innings.
Notable moments. 1) Des showing the young lads (why arsenal ‘blew it’) non-fielding with his feet. 2) Niro and Shaurya opening spells. 3) some excellent ground fielding and good catches.
Player of the match. Tough one. Des for his bowling and batting, Sid for shot of the day late cut, Shaurya for his bowling and Sambit for anchoring the innings. Skippers choice however goes to Raies for bowling well, truly outstanding fielding and shoving the skippers decision to bat him ten where the sun doesn’t shine and winning the game in a matter of 5 balls.
A great game and great result. Thanks to Sachin G for scoring and providing sustenance to skipper and offspring.
Catching and batting to improve. Everything else pretty sound. Love to all. RGH/No. 3.
